10 Things To Know Before Having Your Car Repaired

“We at Akins Collision Centers, Inc.  are in the business of repairing damaged vehicles but our PASSION is helping people.  Here are some tips to help you.”

- Ann & Bill Rupp and the Akins Collision Center Family

  1. Your car is the second largest investment you’re likely to make.  Protect its resale value and your families’ safety by having it repaired professionally.
  2. Never drive a car that could be unsafe because of damages.  Some cars’ designs incorporate safety items that are one time use.  With all the new technology you need to have an expert determine the safety aspects as soon as possible.
  3. Some insurance companies may want you to visit their drive-in claims center before having your car repaired.  You can do this, or you may leave your car at our shop and ask that the insurance company inspect the car there.
  4. There is no law requiring you to obtain more than one estimate or appraisal.
  5. You have the right to go to the repair shop of your choice.  Your insurance company cannot require you to go to a particular shop.
  6. Differences in repair estimates are common.  A lower estimate may not include all necessary work.  If you’re not sure why one estimate is different from another you’ve received please allow us to provide you with our no obligation review and analysis.
  7. Choose a shop that has uni-body repair equipment and is certified by I-Car or ASE.
  8. Check online referral sources and deal only with a shop that has an established track record.
  9. Make sure the shop offers a written lifetime warranty on repairs.
  10. Let us help you negotiate your claim with the insurance company.  We have been doing this since 1971.  This may be your first claim.
